THE SEELBACH HILTON HOTEL

Best known for the inspiration behind Tom Buchanan and Daisy Fay Buchanan’s wedding in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary classic, The Great Gatsby, the Seelbach Hotel is still considered one of the grandest hotels in Louisville. Originally built in 1905 by Lois and Otto Seelbach, this Beaux Arts Baroque hotel has been frequented by many notable guests ranging from U.S. Presidents, Celebrities, and even the infamous Al Capone. On the National Register of Historic Places, the Seelbach Hotel has maintained its opulence for more than a century. Just two short years after the initial opening, an expansion was added to include an additional 154 guestrooms and an authentic Bavarian Rathskeller-a German word for basement tavern or restaurant. The renovation of this hotel will include modern upgrades to the guestrooms, lobby, and public spaces.
