THE TROUBADOUR HOTEL NEW ORLEANS, TAPESTRY COLLECTION BY HILTON

This seventeen-story historically significant concrete structure stands at the corner of Rampart and Gravier Streets in downtown New Orleans, within walking distance of the Superdome, Champions Square, the French Quarter, and the Central Business District.

The rehabilitation of this historic mid-century modern structure brought new life to a building that had been vacant for over 30 years.  Formerly known as the Rault Center, the building was converted into a boutique Joie de Vivre hotel, including a full service restaurant, meeting spaces, and a rooftop bar.  Campo worked closely with the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office and National Park Service to preserve what remained of the building’s historic features, re-create the building’s original chevron shaped aluminum cladding, and match the original historic window profiles.  

Campo designed a new metal canopy and entry plaza for the hotel, allowing an accessible approach and outdoor seating. The guest rooms were designed to take advantage of the building’s expansive windows, providing abundant natural light in each room. The building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the project received both State and Federal Historic Tax Credits. The Troubadour won a Louisiana Landmark Society Award for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation and a Preservation Louisiana Award.
